Teaching of Science Through ICT 26th September

                                            Teaching Science in Class IV 




ICT is one of the significant motivational factor in students’ learning, and can support students’ engagement with cooperative learning. Thus, teaching and learning process is made more relevant, easier and user-friendly because materials and information are available from various sources such as e-library, e-textbooks, work samples, video lessons and readymade projects and assignments on a varied topics and subjects. It has interconnected the world through different means and techniques.

A study conducted by Blanskat, Blamire, Kefala (2006) in national, international, and European schools  to draw an evidence regarding the advantages of ICT in school learning achievement, it has been  found out that ICT has positive impact on students’ performances. In this context, Education ministry in collaboration with colleges of education is trying their best to let the teachers to realize the roles of ICT in modern teaching and learning process. Therefore, we as a teacher need to give our students a platform to explore and adopt as per the demand of the environment.

On 24th September, I taught the topic ‘Forces’ in class IV through ICT tools, that is using wechat and Google classroom. First of all I gave few question from Test Yourself portion from their Science Text book to pretest children’s knowledge. I also sent some pictures and ask them to identify what kind of forces or action are they and ask them to categories the pictures into column A and column B based on pull or push actions given in the picture or in the text.             

 To make the topic more interesting and to give clear concept I down loaded  the short video lesson from youtube and sent to the children and ask them to watch it after that I ask children to define ‘Forces’ on their own words, let children to write their own definition. And to my surprise children has done it , they has written their own definition, which means children has got the concept about the topic and it is the good sign of teaching and learning taking place through ICT at this situation.

Till date though I used ICT in my lesson, it has very limited opportunities for me as well as for the students but now at this pandemic I have really learnt a lot regarding ICT. There are  uncountable benefits of ICT in teaching learning process that can be done through mobile . ICT plays a pivotal role in transforming educational practices.  ICT not only helps to translate theory to pragmatic experience, but also makes learning more fun and creative. It has helped both the teacher and the learner to carry out their tasks conveniently and efficiently which finally results learning more independently through ICT as they take more responsibility of learning process. But there are also some disadvantages or the difficulties that I encountered during online classes was that sometime due to network problem we cannot assign the work on time and cannot give our best to teach children like in face to face teaching that we used to do before this pandemic. I could not reach all of my students, few of them lack in online classes as they don’t have smart phone and their parents use simple phone which doesn’t support the apps, not to deprive those children from learning I have used other alternatives to teach them.

The Novel, Dawa the stray Dog

The novel, Dawa the the story of a stray Dog is a story which is written in 2017 by a Bhutanese author kuenzang choden. The story is very interesting and realistic. There are twelve chapters in the story. Each  chapters takes the reader through different themes and values . Beside few human characters all the major characters are dogs and they represent humans in real. The protogonist in the novel is Dawa who is a stray dog. The novel is written in a simple language . It can be easily read and understand by a common man.I also felt quite comfortable to read this book.The language and the words are very simple and applicable to read. I enjoyed reading this book. Through this novel I have learnt life long values.
